Queensland and the European Defence Primes - a growth opportunity

Mark Scott, Managing Director of SYSTRA Scott Lister (SSL) participated as a panel member alongside Managing Directors from Rheinmetall, Airbus and Thales at the event titled “Queensland and the European Defence primes: a growth opportunity” on Wednesday 30th October 2019, in Brisbane.

The event was co-hosted by the Queensland Chapters of the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI) and German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACIC).

Mark Scott discussed how a number of the key objectives of the Major Services Provider (MSP) model are achieved through scale and longevity of contracts between CASG and MSPs:

a) Reduce cost and increase certainty - on specific project activities
b) Foster Capability growth and development – to support resourcing the industry for the future;
SME engagement, bringing in capability from other industries, graduate programs, STEM.

Mark explained that the MSP model, when applied at scale, is reducing fees from the old DSS model by typically around 20%, and that some branches are saving over $10M per year by embracing the model.

Through Defence’s willingness to partner, long-term commitment results in; decreased risk to MSP companies, economies of scale and therefore an ability to lower prices, while investing the benefits in growing Defence’s capability for the future.
